Post-Partum Osteopathy

supporting your recovery and everyday function

The postnatal period is a time of deep transformation—physically, emotionally, and mentally. As your body recovers from pregnancy and childbirth, and as you adapt to the demands of caring for your newborn.

Postnatal Care & The Mummy MOT®

We offer both postnatal care & the Mummy MOT®. Let’s explain the difference!

Mummy MOT®

Specialist, licensed postnatal assessment to check recovery from a vaginal birth or c-section- this does not include an osteopathic treatment. Mummy MOT® includes:

  • Pelvic floor and abdominal function check (this can include an internal assessment if deemed relevant & always with your full consent)
  • Screening for diastasis recti (tummy gap).
  • Postural assessment
  • Practical advice for lifting, feeding and baby care
  • Screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
  • Tailored exercises to rebuild strength and confidence

This assessment is ideal once you’ve had your GP/midwife check (often after 6 weeks), though later is also beneficial.

Following your assessment, your Osteopath may suggest a Women’s Health follow up appointment to monitor your progress with your exercises and, where appropriate, discuss hands-on treatment.

Women’s Health Osteopathy

Suitable for further post-natal care at any stage post-partum as the treatment can help to support ongoing recovery. These sessions include:

  • An osteopathic assessment of whole body posture, movement, joints and muscles (including pelvic floor assessment, where appropriate, with your consent) to determine how you are adapting after a pregnancy.
  • Gentle hands-on treatment may be used to ease areas of tension, improve mobility, and support overall wellbeing.
  • Advice on posture, feeding positions and daily activity is also included, as well as useful, manageable, home exercises.
